Kiva in Bulgaria

Thursday February 9, 2006
Kiva, an organization that lends money to poverty-stricken populations for the purpose of encouraging entrepreneurship, is now working in Bulgaria. Their newsletter explains REDC Bulgaria:

This organization currently focuses its efforts in and around Sliven, Bulgaria. However, through their partnership with the US Peace Corps, REDC will be able to lend efficiently to small businesses in 113 locales by leveraging the Peace Corps' network of 178 volunteers.

You can help Kiva to support small businesses in developing economies by lending money yourself--the rewards to you include reports concerning how your money is being used and up-to-date information on the businesses your money is helping to grow. To become a lender to a small business in Bulgaria, Gaza, Africa, and other regions, visit www.kiva.org.

This is a fast-growing organization that has gotten a lot of press recently. After all the eligible businesses were funded by those who caught wind of Kiva in the blogosphere a couple of months ago, Kiva has been able to expand and offer support to many more small businesses than it could originally accomodate. It's worth getting in on the action!
