Bulgaria: The "Real" Eastern Europe
Monday April 3, 2006
The Spectator featured an article this week by Neil Clark entitled, "Bulgaria" (you may have to complete the free registration process in order to view the article in its entirety). This article is a must-read for anyone who has had any inclination to visit this Balkan country. Clark describes Plovdiv with loving enthusiasm. The article includes charming reasons to visit Bansko and Sofia as well--folk singing with peasants, wonderful and affordable wines, and haunting respects paid to lost loved ones were all part and parcel to this Bulgarian adventure. Clark's opinion is summed up thusly:
For those keen to experience ‘backward’ Eastern Europe, Bulgaria and not Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic or Poland is the real McCoy.
Maybe it's time you start considering Bulgaria for your next Eastern European destination!
