Seeing Lenin's Body

Sunday April 9, 2006
Central and Eastern Europe seems to be recovering from the flooding and is now working on recovery efforts. The Czech Republic reports damage to national monuments, which, while to be expected, is unfortunate.

Should you see Lenin's body when you're in Moscow? Maybe, maybe not, depending upon your tolerance for long lines, waxen corpses, and exaggerated reverence. If you find yourself in Red Square on a day when other attractions are closed, Lenin's Tomb might be a way to kill some time. On the other hand it may not be an event to plan your day around. The possibility of Lenin finally being interred has been a rumor for years--so you decide whether Moscow's revolutionary mummy is a priority on your agenda.

What an interesting and well-written article! However, it’s funny, all the hassle you described makes me want to see it even more. Plus, there’s something dark and provocative about seeing the body of a man who literally was the Russian nation for a time. The bit you wrote about wondering how many death warrants his hands had signed really grabbed me. Your site is extremely well-done and I look forward to seeing more!
