Eastern Europe: Still Battling Floods

Thursday April 20, 2006
For Southeastern European countries, as well as Ukraine and Moldova, the flooding in Eastern Europe has yet to come to and end. More rain in Bulgaria has made the situation worse for inhabitants of that country. The Danube River has been the biggest culprit in the flooding, but tributary rivers like the Sava, Tisa, and Tamis, have also flooded and contributed to the Danube's record-high water levels. The BBC has an updated map of flooded regions.

Leah Konicki has made new additions to her Bratislava blog, complete with pictures of springtime in Slovakia. They contrast greatly with the scenes of flooding that are posted in the news, but they prove that Eastern Europe has many areas that are just gearing up for tourist season. Check out this great picture of Devín Castle . Beautiful pictures of Modrý Kostelik (Blue Church), Hviezdoslavovo Square, and the Opera House, too!
