Czech Garnets

Friday June 16, 2006
The Czech Republic is known for its high-quality garnets. Czech garnets are as ubiquitous in Prague as is amber in the Baltic nations. Czech garnets are of the Pyrope variety. Deep red and relatively hard on the mineral hardness scale, garnets are good for everyday wear.

You'll be able to fine garnets in a variety of contemporary or classic settings, as well as antique czech garnet jewelry, found in Czech antiques shops as well as some jewelry shops. You can purchase fairly inexpensive pieces, or really heirloom-quality rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, or brooches as gifts or for yourself.

Czech garnets are very very good quality. I can say easily that its the best quality out there. Everybody who knows about can agree with me.

I bought a Czech garnet ring in Litomerice, Czech Republic, while vacationing there this summer (2008). My jeweler said they are of exquisite quality, and the $329 was well spent. It’s a beautiful reminder of the wonderful two weeks spent there. Just make sure you buy your piece from a reputable jeweler (over there) because there are some not so reputable shops that try to pass shoddy workmanship off as “qenuine.”
