Working While Traveling?

Thursday August 31, 2006
Many people, especially students, wonder if working while traveling is feasible for Eastern Europe. My advice is: work hard before you go, save plenty of money, and then spend it wisely while you're traveling. Temporary jobs for Westerners in the Eastern European countries are low-paying, difficult to find, and may require special permission. In addition, as the economy of Eastern Europe is not comparable to Western economies, your hard-earned dollar, euro, or pound will go much farther towards transportation, food, and hotels than would the equivalent in the local currencies.

The relative price of goods and services in Eastern Europe are just one reason to take a few days, a few weeks, or even a couple of months to to travel through Eastern Europe. If you need nine more reasons to travel to Eastern Europe, they're easy to come up with. Whether you're hankering to see Charles Bridge in Prague, to dance the night away in the clubs of St. Petersburg, or to relax at a spa in Kazimierz Dolny, you'll find that Prague, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, and the other countries of Eastern Europe offer great perks for the Western traveler. Price, while it is often the initial draw, soon becomes one of the least significant reasons to travel there.
