Exhibit at the Kremlin

Wednesday November 15, 2006
An exhibition of gifts to Soviet leaders has gone on show at the Kremlin. From the commonplace to the bizarre, these gifts demonstrate national devotion to leaders of Russia from 1921-1990. It could be said that exhibiting these gifts, held in vaults in Moscow for decades, are just as strange as the practice of keeping Lenin's body on display in Red Square. It's true that many people, especially members of the older generations, miss the Soviet regime. However, perhaps it's time for everyone to move on.

This is history and these items represent a significant time period in Russia’s history. You cannot “move on” from history. Should we move on from the Holocaust? Items and materials from any part of history illustrate history for us and allow us to understand and better interpret our world’s past.
