Radiation Onboard Aircraft

Thursday November 30, 2006
While those who were following the Litvinenko case might have reconsidered their romantic fantasy of living out a James Bondian existence as a Russian spy, 33,000 passengers who flew British Airways were exposed to the radiation that killed Livinenko have more to worry about.

Officials say that the risk is low to passengers and flight crews, however, those who were on the flights under investigation are not convinced. Some passengers outside of the UK have been asked to "watch the news," as some say they are unable to get necessary advice from health professionals or British Airways. However, international news coverage of this situation has increased now that the threat to travelers has become an international one. The BBC website has several articles that discuss passengers' fears, London locations where radiation has been found, and the particulars of the Litvinenko case.

The list of flights involved is lengthy, and can be found here. Around 30 flights from London Heathrow to Moscow were affected. In addition, British Airways has set up a helpline.
