Koniakow Poland - Traditional Lace Now Lingerie
Tuesday January 30, 2007
Eastern European traditions often get updates by craftsmen and craftswomen seeking to appeal to a more modern, international audience. The famous traditional lace of Koniakow Poland is now being integrated into women's lingerie. Villagers are divided on the issue. This lace has often been used in Catholic garments and as a symbol of local heritage. Your first response to this lingerie, a la Borat, might be "Wowoweewah!" but, if you travel to Poland and find yourself in the market for Koniakow lace, you're probably better off purchasing items you'd like to pass down to your children - like gorgeous tableclothes or other heirloom pieces. After all, Koniakow lace may be all cotton, but g-strings are not the ideal souvenir from any trip abroad.
