Drink to Your Health with Wine Therapy in Ukraine

Friday August 17, 2007
"Wine therapy" is the latest alternative medicine, according to a "specialist" at the Crimea Stars Sanitorium in Alushta. After a consultation, guests of the sanitorium are prescribed their wine treatment. The Crimean wine they drink is sometimes mixed with herbs and vodka, according to BBC. Sound preposterous? It probably is, but that doesn't keep it from drawing attention - and bookings - from those eager to try this new kind of therapy.

But you don't have to go to a Crimean sanitorium to try a little wine therapy or any other alcohol-based therapy. Hungary, Romania, and Moldova have vineyards, and Czech Republic is famous for its pilsner beer. Vodka, of course, rules in Russia and Poland. And if you can't go there? Take a trip to your local spirits shop and grab a bottle of something authentic. After a couple of drinks, you'll feel as relaxed as you would if you were at a Crimean resort.
