Valenki - Russian Winter Felt Boots
Wednesday October 10, 2007
Valenki, or winter boots made of felt, can be found in Russia and may be worn in the Eastern European countryside. These boots, while traditional, may be better purchased as souvenirs rather than practical gear against snow, ice, and cold. While very warm (they are made of wool), you will still have to wear galoshes over them if tramping through the snow. City folk have moved beyond wearing valenki in favor of more fashionable footwear, but children, members of the older generations, and country dwellers may still favor valenki as a part of their winter wardrobes.

I bought a pair of valenki from AKA culture and they’ve been the best pair of boots I’ve ever had. Seriously. So warm and comfy!
Valenki! I’ve taken my AKAs to 4 continents and they’ve escorted me back alive and fabulous. What a world we live in where feet can be so happy and chic at the same moment.
I also got a pair from akaculture.com. They’re totally daring and new to the states but I love them. A friend gave me a code to get 10% off – I think it should still work: AKACH09.
