Bulgaria - Learning the Ropes

Wednesday June 17, 2009
Traveling in a country whose ways you are unfamiliar with can be difficult enough, but living there can be even more stressful. Cultural differences, the language barrier, and even the climate can create difficulties with day-to-day living in a new country.

The Shumans, who moved to Sofia, Bulgaria, this year, keep a blog about their experiences in this Southeastern European country. Identifying spices for cooking, going to the salon for a cut and a color, and finding an English-language newspaper have all created opportunities to learn more about Bulgaria. The Shumans have approached their adventure with humor and resourcefulness, qualities which come through in their posts. The blog also offers photos, recipes, and tips for getting around. You can visit the blog here: Ellis and Jodie's Bulgarian Adventure.
