Kandinsky Gallery on About.com

Tuesday September 22, 2009

If you won't be able to make it to New York to see the Kandinsky exhibit at the Guggenheim, you can view images from this exhibit at About.com. Shelley Esaak, Guide to Art History, has compiled a photo gallery of some of the images from the show. The images in this gallery are in chronological order, so it's easy to see how this Russian-born artist developed. Kandinsky is often called the "father of abstract art," but Kandinsky did not begin as an abstract artist. Some of his earlier paintings exhibit representational qualities, like Moscow I from 1916. This painting depicts Kandinsky's birthplace as a bustling, colorful city made up of modern towers and onion domes.
