Cathedral of the Transfiguration, Pereslavl-ZalesskyPereslavl-Zalessky may not be a city most travelers are familiar with, but this significant city on Russia's Golden Ring is home to a church over 800 years old and was founded and developed by important historic figures. Establish by Prince Andrei Dolgoruky, the celebrated founder of Moscow, it was also the birthplace of Alexander Nevsky, another prince (and later saint) of Russia. Another birth--of a place, rather than a person--also took place here, that of the Russian naval fleet. When you visit Pereslavl-Zalessky, you'll be brought closer to centuries' worth of Russian history and culture.
