Poznan, a city in the Wielkopolska region of Poland, lays claim to a major historical phenomenon: the Christianization of the early Polish state. It was here on Cathedral Island, or Ostrow Tumski, that Miaszko I was baptized. The alleged baptismal font that was witness to this event can still be seen in the Peter and Paul, or Poznan, Cathedral. Because Ostrow Tumski is located outside of the Old Town, it can be easy to forget that it's there. So if you're in Poznan, do cross the bridge that spans the Warta River and venture into this small, religiously charged section of Old Poznan that recalls the foundation of Poland itself.
