Romanian Renaissance Festivals Can't Get Any Realer

Brasov, RomaniaWhat could be better than a renfest at a Romanian castle? Medieval-style knights' tournaments are currently underway in Romania. Brasov Fortress plays host to the tournaments until tomorrow, then moves on to Bran Castle (the castle most often associated with the real Dracula) and then on to Fagaras Fortress. Parades of lords and ladies, demonstrations of crafts and weapons of old, and yes, of course jousting tournaments will take place at these locations.

Kerry Kubilius,
The best festival is before all the rest.
The “Medievala Festivalul de Sighisoara” takes place EVERY YEAR on the LAST FULL weekend of July.
I know, because I have enjoyed the event TWICE!
It is the same every year, but with different shows every year, over the weekend.
As for “the REAL Dracula”…. Sighisoara was the birth place of Vlad Tepes, “The Impaler”.
His father was “Vlad II Dracul”, a member of the order of the Dragon, which was fashioned after the orders of the Crusades, to save Christian lands from the invasion of the Ottoman Empire (The Turks).
Vlad Tepes was called “Vlad III Dracul” and “Dracul-a, son of Dracul”. Dracul translated means “Devil”. So, Sighisoara is really the most important reference to “Dracula”.
Bran Castle was never the home of Vlad Tepes. It was just convenient for Hollywood.
However, Bran village and the Castle are well worth a day’s visit!
