Santa Claus in Eastern Europe takes on a variety of forms, for example: Ded Moroz and his lovely assistant Snegurochka, who live in Veliky Ustyug; the Czech Santa, who visits as St. Nicholas or Baby Jesus; or the Hungarian Santa who may appear as a generous saint, holy infant child, or even as Grandfather Frost. Children of other countries in the region enjoy visits from similar holiday characters and observe traditions related to gift giving and the celebration of the season.
