Estonia's holidays provide an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn more about Estonian culture. For example, March 11 is Native Language Day, which recognizes the importance of Estonian language on the birthday of a famous Estonian poet. The largest holiday festivities occur over St. John's Day, or Midsummer Day, and Christmas, bringing markets, public performances, and local customs to a wide audience.
