Buda Castle History:
The history of Buda Castle begins in the Middle Ages. The old castle, left in ruins after Ottoman domination, was demolished to make room for a new Baroque-style palace. The 19th century saw the palace destroyed by siege, and once again had to be rebuilt. The palace that was constructed on the site of the old Buda Castle is the structure visitors see today.

In this museum, visitors will see Gothic alterpieces, Baroque art, and art from the 19th and 20th centuries. Seeing the Hapsburg crypt also found in the Hungarian National Gallery requires purchase of an extra ticket.
