Where is Croatia?:
Croatia is located in Southern, or Southeastern, Europe on the Adriatic Sea. This makes it a perfect spot for beach-loving travelers. Croatia is bordered by Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Slovenia. Traveling to and from Croatia's neighboring countries is relatively easy.
Where are the Best Places for Travelers to Croatia?:
While Zagreb is Croatia's capital, it is located inland. Popular spots in Croatia include the Dalmatian Coast (including Dubrovnik), and the Istrian Peninsula.
Getting to and Getting Around Croatia:
Many international airlines have regularly scheduled flights to Croatia. It's also quite easy to get to Croatia by train; there are direct rail routes from surrounding and nearby countries as well as indirect routes from other countries in Europe. Buses may also be taken into and around Croatia. In other situations, it is also possible to travel to Croatia by boat or car.
Is a Visa Necessary for Travel to Croatia?:
Valid passports are the only document necessary for citizens from the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or the UK for stays up to 90 days.
Croatian Currency - Currency in Croatia:
The Kuna is the Croatia unit of currency. Foreign currency exchanges are wideley available throughout Croatia, as are ATM's. While it is always prudent to carry some local currency, major credit cards are widely accepted at hotels and restaurants.
Weather in Croatia - Weather for Croatia Travel:
Croatia's coastal weather is warm (around 80 degrees F) in the summer and mild (around 40 degrees F) during winter. The climate for Croatia's inland is more varied, and may not be as mild as the coast during the winter months.
Vaccinations for Croatia Travel:
No vaccinations are required for Croatia travel. However, visitors are asked to be aware of the risk of tick-borne encephalitis when enjoying Croatia's natural landscape. As before any Eastern European travel, it is adviseable to make sure Tetanus shots are up-to-date, and travelers may want to make sure that they have gotten vaccinated against hepatitis A and typhoid.
