Sofia City Location and History:
Sofia is one of the oldest capital cities in Europe and has existed since the time of the Thracians, who inhabited the area that is Bulgaria before it was taken over by the Romans. Sofia is located in the western part of Bulgaria in a valley, and is surrounded by mountains.

Sofia's summers are pleasant, with temperatures lingering around 70 degrees F in July and August, Sofia's warmest months. The winter months are cold, with temperatures around freezing point December through February.
