Seeing Konopiste Castle:
Konopiste Castle was actually once a grand hunting lodge, and is famous for being the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Three tours take visitors through its rooms. Each are about an hour long and must be booked separately. It's also possible to explore the castle grounds and gardens.
Getting to Konopiste:
The bus from Prague will get you closer to the castle and takes about one hour. From there you can walk to the castle. The train to Benesov u Prahy will drop you in nearby Benesov and require a longer walk or local bus ride to the castle.

A Warning for Animal Lovers:
Konopiste's use as a hunting lodge for the avid hunter Franz Ferdinand means that many of his kills are on display. Two live bears pace the moat restlessly.
Konopiste's Website:
The website for Konopiste Castle can be accessed at www.zamek-konopiste.cz.

The website Konopiste.com (www.konopiste.com) offers a bit more information about the area, including other sites of interest (castle ruins and a cavern), sightseeing flights, and taxi contacts.
