Kutna Hora's Historical Importance:

Kutna Hora was the site of a silver mine and consequently, a medieval coin mint. This made the town extremely wealthy and important, and visitors can see both remnants of the early mining industry and the mint. A tour of the mint will offer views of historic coins and a demonstration about how coins were produced here.

Getting to Kutna Hora:

Bus may be the best option for getting to Kutna Hora. The bus ride takes a little over an hour from Prague. You can catch the bus at the Florenc Bus Station. Be sure to inquire about rides back to Prague later in the day or whenever you intend on returning to the capital. It's also possible to book a tour of Kutna Hora from Prague; the tour guide will pick you up at a designated location and drop you back in Prague upon return from Kutna Hora.

What to See in Kutna Hora:

The heart of medieval Kutna Hora was the Italian Court, the home of the mint, which is open daily. It's also possible to tour the Czech Museum of Silver located in Hradek, a 15th century castle. Other points of interest include St. Barbara's Cathedral, the Jesuit College, and St. James' Church. Interestingly, and in keeping with the town's metallurgical heritage, an Alchemy Museum resides in the Sankturin House.

Sedlec Ossuary:

Sedlec is within walking distance of Kutna Hora. The famous Sedlec Ossuary is located here. Sedlec Ossuary's interior is decorated completely with human bones. When visiting Kutna Hora, Sedlec Ossuary is a must-see side trip.
