Toompea Castle stands on a hill in Tallinn, Estonia's capital city. The original fortress was built as early as the 9th century. In the Middle Ages, the stone structure of Toompea Castle was built, including the Pikk Hermann, or Tall Hermann tower. Other parts of the castle reflect later additions and subsequent architectural styles.

This photo shows only a portion of Toompea Castle, and illustrates how varied its architectural styles are. The medieval Pikk Hermann stands next to the more modern Parliament Building.

It is possible to see Toompea Castle if you book a guided tour.
