Eastern and Central Europe have so much to offer, it's difficult to know where to start. Get familiar with the countries of Eastern Europe to plan your next vacation abroad.

Interactive Clickable Map of Eastern Europe takes you directly to Eastern Europe country profiles.

Or look for the Eastern European country that interests you in the following alphabetized list.

Albania
Albania is a small country in the Balkan region of Southeastern Europe where visitors can enjoy both ski slopes and sunny beaches.

Belarus
Belarus is an Eastern European country that still clings to the memory of the USSR.

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina, once war-torn and unwelcoming, is now a safe and enjoyable country for visitors who love nature or ancient history.

Bulgaria
Bulgaria travel will introduce travelers to “authentic” Eastern European culture. The Black Sea Coast and cities that date back to Thracian times are popular attractions in this Southeastern European country.

Croatia
Want a little R&R and some fun in the sun? Croatia’s seaside cities draw more international tourists every year.

Czech Republic
Most people are familiar with Prague’s reputation for being a top destination for travelers to Central Europe. See Prague, but don’t forget Czech Republic’s other regions, too.

Estonia
Estonia, a Baltic nation, is quickly distancing itself from its past and making great strides as an independent country.

Hungary
Hungary’s unique cuisine, complicated language, and Magyar history make this Central European nation seem exotic, but travelers to Hungary find it welcoming and memorable.

Latvia
Travelers to Latvia may enjoy skiing and snowboarding in the winter, or camping and hiking in the summer.

Lithuania
Don’t underestimate Lithuania – this Baltic nation once enveloped a vast European territory.

Republic of Macedonia
Macedonia, or the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, is a small country with lots to explore. Visit historical and archeological sites, or take part in a local festival.

Moldova
Too often seen as Romania’s younger sibling, Moldova is a country with its own personality.

Poland
Poland’s mix of modern convenience and historical romance (think castles and palaces galore) make Poland second only to Prague on many travelers’ Eastern European destination wish lists.

Romania
A favorite home of vampires, Romania is steeped in tradition. If you love natural landscapes, hiking, or “roughing it,” Romania and its Danube Delta might just be your dream-come-true.

Russia
Eastern Europe’s largest country, Russia never ceases to impress. From St. Petersburg, to Moscow, to far eastern Siberian cities, Russia can give travelers a taste of every climate, terrain, and mode of transportation.

Serbia and Montenegro
Now two separate countries, Montenegro and Serbia are emphasizing their independence from each other.

Slovakia
With an expanding tourism industry, Slovakia is gradually entering the international travel conscience.

Slovenia
With a beautiful countryside and lively city life, Slovenia caters to all types of visitors.

Ukraine
Ukraine was the original Rus, which gets credit for introducing Eastern Europe to Orthodoxy. Ukraine is also the land of Cossacks and Ukrainian eggs.
