Nesvizh Belarus (Radziwill Family Complex)

By Kerry Kubilius, About.com

Radziwill Family Complex as an UNESCO World Heritage Site:
The Radziwill Complex at Nesvizh has been inscribed to the World Heritage Site list for three reasons: the complex represents the initiation of a new architectural style in the 16th and 17th centuries that became popular in Central and Eastern Europe; the Corpus Christi Church, in particular, is representative of a "new" type of basilica structure; the Radziwill family is credited with having spread influences from the West and the South to Central and Eastern Europe.
Radziwill Complex Castle Restoration :
Because the castle at the Radziwill Complex was used as a sanitorium for years before its World Heritage inscription in 2005, heavy-duty restoration has had to take place. Visitors can still visit the site, if they can overlook the construction taking place, and even view the English-style gardens that were introduced in the late 19th Century.
Corpus Christi Church in Nesvizh:
Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, the Corpus Christi Church has been called the most important building in the Radziwill Complex. The domed basilica brought Baroque style architecture to Eastern Europe, a style which would be synthesized with other architectural styles elsewhere.
Nesvizh a Part of Belarus Tours:
Nesvizh and the Radziwill Complex is an inevitable stop on many Belarus tour. Jewish heritage tours also may include Nesvizh; the Jewish population and the later Jewish uprising during WWII make Nesvizh significant to Jewish heritage research.
