Ukraine's national flag consists of two horizontal stripes - blue over gold. The gold symbolizes Ukraine's fields of grain, and the color blue depicts the sky. While these colors have been used on flags throughout Ukraine's history by Cossacks and for regions of historical Ukraine, this particular flag was first used for the Ukraine nation in 1918.
