Ukrainian cookbooks are hard to come by. There just arent' many sources for traditional Ukrainian recipes out there in book form. However, here are four Ukrainian cookbooks that are currently available to English-speaking audiences. Users have mixed opinions about them, but I consider them generally good introductions to Ukrainain cuisine.
By Marta Pisetska Farley. This Ukrainian cookbook plays homage to the Paganism-meets-Christianity evolution of Ukrainian customs, rituals, and festivities.
By Bohdan Zahny. This book has been described - with equal parts delight and dismay - as a Ukrainian cookbook that stays true to the authentic cuisine of Ukraine . . . right down to the use of lard. However, traditional ingredients produce traditional cuisine!
Edited by Joanne Asala. Users love the spiral-bound format of this little book. Classic Ukrainian recipes, including drinks, fill this Ukrainian cookbook's 162 pages.
By Irene Psathas. This memoir-cookbook comes from Sister Irene's life experiences and her Ukrainian-Greek heritage. Stories and recipes are equally delightful.
