The Third Duck (Treti Kachna) Restaurant is a branch of Prague's U Modre Kachnicky Restaurant, which is frequently recommended to visitors to Prague who are unfamiliar with Czech food. Located just off of Mostecka Street once you cross Charles Bridge on the Mala Strana side, The Third Duck is easy to miss, but it is a good place to get a hot meal and a few beers with your travel companions.

The Third Duck Food and Drinks

The Third Duck Restaurant serves traditional Czech cuisine. This means that meat and potatoes are featured front and center. The hamburger steak or breaded fish are flavorful accompaniments to the prerequisite Pilsner Urquell. Glasses of the Czech Republic's favorite beer are served served at prices that are very good even though the restaurant is located in the heart of a tourist district.

Look for specials - 150 CZK will get you a plate of food and a non-alcoholic beverage, though you'll pay a little more if you order directly off of the regular menu.

The Third Duck Service

Owing to its location, waistaff at The Third Duck Restaurant are adept at serving tourists. Food arrives just in time for a second Pilsner. Servers are friendly if abrupt - you will be set straight quickly if it appears you have ordered something with which you are unfamiliar; if you have a question, the server will answer on his way to the next table.

Bottom Line

Though this restaurant is tucked into a passageway, tourists are its main customer base. Youth are lured in by prices. Mature customers find the location convenient after their trek across the bridge.

Overall, this restaurant is recommended for value and location. You'll get a decent Czech meal at a reasonable price, and if you drink too much you won't have any difficulty orientating yourself in the city.
