If you're a new visitor to Prague and are intent on seeing Prague's sights, consider Prague's trams as your main mode of transportation. They are both inexpensive and great for those not yet familiar with the city - if you miss your stop, you can always board a tram going in the opposite direction in order to get to where you want to go.

Tickets for trams can be purchased at Metro stations and news kiosks. You are unable to purchase tickets once on board the tram, but immediately upon boarding you should validate your ticket using the machine made for this purpose. If you are unsure about this step, simply watch your fellow passengers.

Tram numbers 22 and 23 follow the routes most used by tourists. Schedules are printed at each stop. While trams run frequently during the day time, there is a 4- to 5-hour period after midnight when the trams run at a reduced schedule. If you're out late, you may have to wait an hour or more for your tram. In this cases, it may be better to catch a taxi (the metro stops running completely from midnight to 5 am.)
