This monument of King Decebal or Decebalus was completed in 2004 and overlooks the Danube. King Decebalus was a Dacian king who was defeated by the Romans in the 2nd century, making Dacia a province of Rome. The Roman Empire's hold on the region was short-lived, however, and Goths eventually replaced them, mingling with the people who were already established in what is today Romania.
