Definition: Kremlin is the Russian word for "fortress." It indicates a group of buildings located within a fortification.

Kremlin does not only refer to Moscow's Kremlin. Other major historical cities in Russia had their own kremlins. The Kazan Kremlin and the Novgorod Kremlin are two other famous Russian kremlins. The Siberian city of Tomsk preserves a model of its original kremlin.
