Matryoshka Dolls Photo Gallery

Upon election of Barack Obama to the position of President of the United States, dolls featuring Obama and past U.S. Presidents began appearing in Russia. The photo shown here was taken prior to Obama's visit to Moscow in the summer of 2009. The doll on the left shows the face of Obama. The doll on the right shows the face of Russian President Medvedev and likely contains representations of Russian leaders from this century and the last.

When you travel in Russia and other parts of Eastern Europe, you will likely see matryoshka dolls that have been created in response to current events, like the rising popularity of certain celebrities or the election of public figures, or to commemorate major world events, like the first moon landing.
